As I was saying, we still have the outhouse, a fancy one with little windows and four seats, two grown-up size and two child-size. (We do have modern bathrooms inside the house, but the outhouse was in use as late as 1945.)
A few years ago we had it repaired because some of the boards were rotten. One of the men who did the work had just seen a television documentary about outhouses and what may lie under them, so the crew excavated. People used to throw things down the holes, and they found a pitcher, old medicine bottles, and a doll.
