I got your book Writing Magic for Christmas when I was in 6th grade. I love it and have used it so many times that I'm surprised it hasn't disintegrated! :-P

I just wanted to say that I first read Ella Enchanted when I was either 7 or 8 (can't remember!) and it was instantly my favorite book and you are my favorite childhood author ever. I also read all your Princess short stories, Dave at Night, and The Two Princesses of Bamarre, but I continued to read Ella Enchanted over and over again through to middleschool, and soon everyone knew it was my favorite book because it was always with me- I even recited a few pages of it for my speech sixth grade speech project and won first place in the whole school. When Fairest came out my parents bought it for me and I read it many times as well. I'm fifteen now, and I love writing. My first novel was a two hundred page fairytale that still sits on my shelf with my other books. I haven't read a fairytale or written one in a long time, because eventually I got into realistic fiction, but this week I just decided to read Ella and Fairest again for fun, and was reminded of how much I loved them, and how I don't think I would be the writer I am, or a writer at all, if it weren't for your books. I try to get my sister, now 8, to read them, but it's difficult to get her to read anything that's more than a hundred pages. I hope you read this because I really want you to know how much your books mean to me and the impact they had on me as a little girl who became a writer because of it.
Sincerely, Summer Joy

Thanks to all for the kind comments!

Kat--There are many books about getting published.

Ruth--If you'll copy your question over to my blog (click on the tab), I'll put it on my list of questions, and I'll get to it in a blog post, although that may take a while and I can't swear I'll solve the problem.

I'm 15 and i still love your books that I read and loved when when I was 8. I get so much more out of them then I did now, and they teach me so much about what it means to be a girl that's not a conformist, especially Ella Enchanted. They have showed me that it's okay to have a free spirit, and i still laugh and cry EVERY time I read them! I loved how you wrote Fairest in the same world as Ella Enchanted, and I think that you should keep writing forever!
Thank you so much!

Hi!
So I tend to get overly obsessive about my stories--or, more accurately my characters and my settings. For example, I have been vomiting up increasingly esoteric facts about the same fictitious people for over a year. I can tell you everything from their childhood hobbies right down to the shoe size for even my most minor characters. Whenever I write (whenever I think, really), it ends up being superfluous conversations between them or them doing everyday tasks. And nothing happens. They could all continue the way they are right now, like a literary perpetual motion machine that never goes anywhere. If this isn't to vague a request... help?
