The candle trees were inspired by the topiary in the Cloisters in Ft. Tryon Park (New York City), near where I grew up.

I'm delighted ELLA has meant so much to you.

hello! i'm unsure if you will even see this but i wanted to reach out and tell you that ella enchanted is one of my favorite books in the entire world. I've been thinking about it a lot lately, about how much it impacted me as a child and how magical it makes life feel every time i reread it, so i just wanted to say thank you for writing such an incredible book. if you do read this and have the time to respond, i have a question regarding the book. I have always been especially enamored by the candle trees and wondered if you ever drew them or had any real life inspiration behind what they looked like (how big they were, the kind of leaves they grew, etc.) i know it's a strange thing to ask about but i've just always wondered. thank you again ❤️

I'm rather a fan of your work, but nothing more than "Writing Magic." It's the finest book on how to write that I've ever encountered, even at 40 years old. If I wanted to get the book autographed, would there be an address where I could send it?

Dear Ms. Levine,

I just needed you to know what an important book Fairest has been for me. I read it for the first time when I was about 12. I had never enjoyed reading up to that point, and certainly didn't choose to read if I didn't have to. All of that changed when I read Fairest; I couldn't put it down! For the first time in my life, I chose reading over playing, drawing, even chatting with friends! I never knew to then what a great thing a book could be. I'm happy to say that I've found several more books to enjoy since that time, but Fairest will always be my first, and I never would have looked for others without it.

I'm rereading it now, 16 years later, and I'm delighted to say it's still as captivating and charming as it ever was. Thank you for sharing your wit and imagination. Thank you for the gift of books.

Sincerely,
Mary

I first discovered you by reading "Fairest," and it's still one of my favorite books of all time. It has beautiful writing, fresh twists on a (frankly) old tale, and a gorgeous love story. You made me want to write, to make readers as happy as you made me. Keep doing what you're doing!
Luv ya,
Elizabeth :D
